Cohasset Police Investigating Serious Crash at Intersection of Hull Street and Jerusalem Road

COHASSET — The Cohasset Police and Fire Departments responded to a serious, single-vehicle crash on Saturday, May 1 that left a woman with life-threatening injuries.

On Saturday at 4:20 p.m., police received numerous 911 calls reporting a single vehicle crash at the intersection of Hull Street and Jerusalem Road. The callers reported that a Mercedes Benz car took the intersection, known as West Corner, at a high rate of speed, struck a stone wall and burst into flames.

Police officers arrived within minutes to find the 2008 Mercedes, model undetermined, to be burning with the adult female driver trapped inside. The driver was identified as a 65-year-old Cohasset woman. Her name is not being released at this time.

The Hingham Fire Department also responded to the scene to assist Cohasset Fire.

We know trust is key to developing relationships with our community to ensure we can keep Cohasset safe.”

The video features members of the department including Chief Quigley, Lt. Greg Lennon, Lt. • Remaining unbiased and fair
  • Seeing each person as an individual
  • Responding to the needs of each individual
  • Safety as the highest priority

Members of the department speak to how the values outlined in the video relate to their experiences on the job, and anecdotes shared included life saving efforts, conflict resolution, the role of a school resource officer in the community and helping to locate a missing person.

“My goal is to build a bridge between the police and the community, especially the younger generation,” School Resource Officer Greg Taylor said in the video. “I want them to feel as though they can approach a police officer whether it’s to say hi or if they are in need of help or need some assistance.”   For the latest updates from the Cohasset Police Department, visit their website by clicking here.

Cohasset Police Officers undergo mediation training

Several Cohasset police officers gained training as certified mediators through a program hosted by the Community Dispute Settlement Center (CDSC) in Cambridge over the past two weeks. The CDSC was established in 1979 and is a private, not-for-profit mediation and training center dedicated to providing an alternative forum for resolving conflict.

Cohasset police now have six officers, including Chief Bill Quigley, that are certified mediators.

“We are the first police department in the area embracing this type of innovative training for our officers,” Quigley said. “At our core, police officers are problem s

Cohasset Police seize 100 firearms and military shells from Doane Street home

Cohasset police seized approximately 100 unsecured weapons including shotguns, rifles and pistols from 50 Doane St. Friday afternoon. A Navy unit out of Newport, R.I. took custody of five military-grade ordnance shells also found in the home.

Police received information from a credible source that the resident at that address had numerous unsecured rifles and shotguns strewn about his house and as a result, obtained a search warrant issued by a Clerk Magistrate at Quincy District Court. They executed the search warrant at 2 p.m.

When the military shells were found, officers backed out of the home and notified the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad. Members of the bomb squad arrived, assessed the shells, notified the United States Navy, and requested that they respond to take custody of the items. It is not known if the shells are live or not.

Chief Bill Quigley explained that under state law firearms have to be secured in a locked cabinet or with a trigger lock. The 65-year-old man, who lives alone, did have a license to possess rifles and shotguns, which was revoked by Quigley on Friday. All of his weapons have been seized.

“There are no more firearms in the house and in the adjacent building which he also owns that was searched as well,” Quigley said.

This case remains under investigation by the Cohasset Police.

Updated Jun 14, 2016 at 3:47 PM

COHASSET – Two Scituate men have been charged with raping a 15-year-old girl at the home of one of the men’s mother.
Zachery P. Chamberlain, 19, of 12 Captain Pierce Road, and Joshua Ford, 20, of 56 Henry Turner Bailey Road in Scituate, pleaded innocent June 10 in Quincy District Court on one count each of rape of a child. A judge ordered each of them held on $2,500 cash bail, which they posted at the courthouse.
The girl reported to Cohasset Police on June 7 that Chamberlain and Ford had assaulted her separately at Ford’s mother’s house in Cohasset on June 4, according to a police officer’s affidavit filed in court.
The girl told police Chamberlain, who she’d met once before, and Ford, who she did not know, picked her and a friend up that afternoon and drove them to Minot Beach in Scituate. She told police the two men had been drinking and that there was alcohol in the vehicle.
Later in the day, they went to Ford’s mother’s house where the group continued drinking and hanging out, the document said. The girl told police that while they were there Ford and Chamberlain each assaulted her separately.
Warrants were issued for the two men on June 9.
Ford was arrested in Hull and Chamberlain turned himself in after learning a warrant had been issued for his arrest.
They are due back in court on Aug. 15.
