What is the Citizens Police Academy?

The Citizens Police Academy (CPA) is a unique program which allows people from our community to enter and experience the world of 21st Century Policing through the eyes of a police officer.

Students will learn how police officers are selected and hired, the training requirements, how the police department is organized, the rules officers are required to follow, criminal law, constitutional law, use of force/TASER, OUI and how the breathalyzer works, and many other facets of police patrol operations.  Students will have the opportunity to ride along with an officer during part of a shift, learn CPR, and see how NARCAN is administered to overdose victims.

Detectives will teach how fingerprints are located, lifted, and examined, the K-9 officer will show you how a police dog tracks people, and a Cohasset Police computer forensics expert will let you in on how information is being stored inside your smartphone and home computer, and how the police can lawfully gain access to it while conducting criminal investigations.

The classes will meet weekly – Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the Cohasset Emergency Operations Center, located in the rear of the Deer Hill School.  SCHEDULE: 1/25, 2/1, 2/8, 2/15, 3/1, 3/8, and 3/15 (Note:  2/22 was skipped due to school vacation week).

Seating will be limited to 20 people.  Applications for the CPA can be found by-clicking  CPA 2017 Packet or in the lobby of the police station.  Completed applications should be sent to: info@cohassetpolice.com
